Week 38.5 Doctor's Appointment

On the way to this morning's appointment, I was giddy with the anticipation of what the doctor would tell me. Was I a couple of centimeters dilated? Was I one of those women who got to 8 centimeters without even knowing it? I was certain I had to be at least dilated a little bit - it had been two weeks since I'd been "checked" and I had just spent several days packing, bending, lifting, and moving. Surely that had helped to move things along. After all, I only have a week and a half until my due date and plenty of women out there go into labor 1, 2 and even 3 weeks early.

Boy have I never been more wrong. Much to my dismay, the doctor checked me out and announced that I was still closed up tight. WHAT? You've got to be kidding me - NOTHING? Not even a little bit dilated? Really...nothing is happening down there. So much for my hopes of having Sprout before my due date and getting a little extra time off of work! I do still have just over a week to go - so it's still possible. So now, I'm turning to the power of positive thinking and telling my body to open up and spit this kid out sooner rather than later!

What I REALLY don't want to happen is for Sprout to stay comfy where s/he is and decide not to come out until July 4th - I already have plans made to enjoy a few beers poolside at my brother's annual 4th of July party!! I'm sure though, that even if Sprout did decide to join us that day, it certainly wouldn't be the last time our plans get changed for our child. And I'll take Sprout any day s/he wants to come - just hopefully sooner than later!

Oh, and according to the doctor - head is still down and Sprout is measuring about 7lbs. Hopefully, those facts will remain the same until Sprout decides to make his entrance into the world!

PS. Don't forget to submit your vote for when Sprout will come and what s/he is in the "Baby Pool" - just click on the link on the bottom of the right column!
