Mother's Day

Since I had to leave on the morning of Mother’s day for a business trip to China, we decided to celebrate a day early with what ended up as a PERFECT day! The day started off with Matt telling me what my mother’s day gift was – something I’d mentioned earlier in the week about wanting (he’s a good listener when he wants to be!) – a cleaning service coming to the house and spending all day doing a Spring cleaning, so that I wouldn’t have to!

Later that morning, Matt watched our little drool monster while I headed out for some garage sales, and got some great scores! Around lunch time, we headed out to one of our local state parks that is along the Chesapeake Bay, armed with a picnic backpack and sunscreen. Now, if you know me, you know I’m a planner and it’s hard for me to be spontaneous, even with the simplest things! Our original plan was to grab some Wawa hoagies for lunch (the best ever) but realized there wasn’t a Wawa on our way, so the plan changed to Chick-fil-A, which is always a solid go to. However, there was major construction and traffic in the direction of the Chick-fil-A so we just kept going and decided to wing it. I was a bit worried since the park is on a road that doesn’t have much on it, but we happened to pass a grocery store that I’ve never been to with a name I’ve never heard, and decided it was our last resort and stopped in. Come to find out, it’s a family owned store that has been around for 80 years, and happens to be one of the only grocery stores in Maryland that sells alcohol due to a grandfather clause! And timing was on our side, because they were just starting wine tasting! So, after about an hour of getting food, wine tasting and talking to the owner – we finally headed out with $50 of wine, $10 of free macaroni, potato and coleslaw salad from the owner and our lunch! The point of this part of my day, is that I have to remind myself sometimes that things don’t always have to be planned, and you can discover new things by winging it!
We spent several hours at the park just enjoying the sunshine and each other. It was wonderfully relaxing and exactly what I wanted for Mother’s day. Time with my favorite two people! Piper Jayne was just perfect as usual – and enjoyed crawling around in the grass while Matt and I relaxed on the blanket, soaking in the sun and taking pictures. When we got back home, I headed out for a mani/pedi, then we headed out to Kyoto for dinner – sushi of course! I truly couldn’t have asked for more than just being with Matt and Piper Jayne. They make me so very happy, and it was wonderful to be able to spend time with them away from home and all the chores and errands mom’s have, and get to enjoy my beautiful family. I felt so blessed.
