America's Finest City
Our trip to San Diego was nothing short of amazing! It was so much fun seeing old friends, visiting old favorite restaurants and enjoying the 80+ degree weather we had. I still can't believe it took us a year and a half to head back!
We had a jam packed weekend planned - from a "must visit" list of restaurants, to plans with all of our friends, I'd be here all night talking about all that we did and how much fun we had, so here are some highlights:
- Seeing all our friends and having them meet Piper (everyone loved her of course!)
- Piper seeing the Pacific Ocean for the first time, and sticking her toes in the water (it was an 80 degree day but the water was still a little chilly!)
- Family pictures at La Jolla cove
- Playing Taboo with the Moatsos' and Vasterghos' (just like old times)
- Eating Lanna Thai (best Thai food EVER), California sushi (there's nothing like it!) and who can resist carne asada burritos from Roberto's, Umberto's or any of the fine "erto's" establishments
Piper was a dream the whole weekend, and not only did she not fuss, but we were able to get her on a later sleep schedule that has stuck so far now that we're back home. On the flight out, Matt had her all by himself (I flew out early for work) and lucked out with two old ladies next to him on the plane that helped him out. One of them even knitted Piper a little hat!! On the way back - she was the perfect child. Seriously, she didn't make a peep the whole flight and the entire plane was commenting as we got off not only how beautiful and adorable she was, but how good she was and they never would have known there was a baby on board. Which is kind of funny considering as people were boarding, Matt and I were laughing at the fact that people were picking center seats in other aisles before they'd pick the window seat in our aisle!
As much as I love my life in Maryland, there is still a part of me that misses San Diego terribly and will always be a San Diego girl. I must admit that I teared up with tears of joy and excitement as my plan landed early in the week, and more tears, but this time of sadness, when our plane took off at the end of our trip. Is it possible to feel like more than one place is "home"? That's sure how it felt to me - like I was home. I suppose it's good to know that even though it's been a year and a half, that not much has changed. Our friends are still our friends, and it's still beautiful there, even in the middle of December!
Much love and thanks to all our SD friends for letting us crash with them, making time to meet up with us, letting us borrow your car, stocking up on baby gear, clearing your schedules, cooking for us and all the wonderful gifts you sent us home with! (Good thing Matt left room in his suitcase on the way out!). The biggest gift we came home with is your continued friendships and wonderful memories. I can't wait to see you all again - and hope it's not as long as it was this time! We love you all!
