4 Months Old!

The last month has been one of many firsts and new developments for Piper! At 4 months, she is holding on to toys, grasping and reaching for things, trying to sit up (doing "crunches"), cooing and making lots of noises and she's even laughed a couple of times! As for "firsts" - we tried some solid foods this month, starting with an avocado then some squash and then some pears. She wasn't too fond of any of it, so we decided to wait a little longer and try again later!

And of course, she continues to bring amazing joy and happiness to our lives. We continue to "do" things as a family and don't let having in infant stop us! It may slow us down a bit (especially with all the stuff she needs) but it certainly doesn't stop us! This past month, we've been to the pumpkin patch, out to dinner (several times), shopping, walks, various games for our nieces/nephews, and who can forget our wonderful long weekend in Charlottesville, VA with wine tasting and seeing Norm!?

Piper is still a little pipsqueak compared to other babies her age. One friend recently commented that she is "petite" - definitely not a term Matt nor I ever expected to hear about any of our kids! She is still in size 1 diapers (though will soon be out of them), and is finally wearing 3-6 month clothes. I've had to do another round of cleaning out her closet and packing away all the clothes she no longer fits in. It's sad to see so many beautiful summer outfits that she was only able to wear once or twice (and a few outfits she never wore at all) because she was too small to wear them - and now that she fits into them, it's too cold outside! She does wear a couple of 9 month outfits, but only because they have footies and if I wait, she will be too long to wear them when she's 9 months! They are way too big on her up top, but I'm on a mission to have her wear every outfit at least once!

At her 4 month doctor's appointment, Piper weighed in at 13lbs 13ozs (50%) and 25.5 inches long (90%). The percentages mean that in weight, for every 100 babies her age, half weigh more and half weigh less, and for length, only 10 are longer and 90 are shorter. In a nutshell, she's long and lean. I wonder where she gets that from!?

As expected, her eyes have remained blue (Matt and I both have blue eyes) and as she's gained weight, she's actually grown into her eyes - she no longer has the bug eye look she had in the beginning! (I can be honest, my daughter had bug eyes!). And, she is FINALLY starting to grow hair! It's still very short, but it's coming in - little by little.

Her smiles continue to be contageous and the highlight of our days....
